ABSTRACT
This paper examines the prospects and challenges of Open Education Resources (OER) in teaching the Business Education curriculum in Federal College of Education, Ilawe-Ekiti, Nigeria. Some of the specific objectives of the study are to identify relevant OER to the teaching of business education; discuss the seeming advantages that OER offers to students and examine some of the limitations to the effectiveness of OER in teaching and learning of business education curriculum in Nigerian Colleges of Education. The study employed the survey research method. Data was obtained from primary and secondary sources namely through questionnaire and relevant books and journal publications. Data was analysed both quantitatively using percentage and qualitatively through content analysis of the secondary sources. The study found out, among others, that though OER encourages plagiarism and hinders critical thinking and analysis among the students; OER materials are very useful to students to enhance the learning process as they are able to deepen their knowledge of concepts and methods of business education through access to digital materials. The study concludes that OER is a revolution in the learning process among students of Colleges of Education in Nigeria and its use should be encouraged by the lecturers to enhance learning by students. It recommends that the authorities of Federal College of Education, Ilawe-Ekiti should subscribe regularly to relevant digital libraries to promote functional learning among their students. Students should also be motivated to access OER materials through regular assignments and term papers.| Keywords | business education · digital materials · functional education · teaching and learning · open |
