ABSTRACT

By definition, Open Educational Resources (OER) are learning materials that are available freely for use, remixing and redistribution. The paper deals with the question, whether current developments in the domain of Open Educational Resources could establish new learning material models and how OER could succeed as a leading educational standard in media pedagogy? The authors analyze urgent problems and core dispositions concerning design, distribution and evaluation of Open Educational Resources. On this basis, they deepen the discussion by exploring use, technology, economics and instructional design of OER. Finally, the authors conclude that the debate on media education and educational standards could not only face a fundamental reorientation, but also provoke a paradigmatic change in educational policy and educational science – from individual internalization of knowledge to collaborative creation of knowledge.
