It focuses on the possibilities offered by these tools to promote collective creation in virtual environments. OER have the potential to reshape the traditional e-learning scenario that is currently based on closed, proprietary and institutionalized systems, content and resources. New forms of knowledge construction and representation, based on free tools and social software, promote a shift from an e-learning to a c-learning paradigm (Owen et al, 2006) in higher education institutions. The paper outlines the teaching-innovation project “Collaborative editing of videos in online environments” carried out at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). First, we look at the role of OER in the construction, dissemination and sharing of knowledge, placing special emphasis on the use of open and collaborative tools for building new virtual learning environments for higher education. Second, we present an analysis of the possibilities and functionalities offered by open video editing tools to create and produce online collaborative audiovisual projects. Finally, we illustrate how these resources and tools are integrated into the framework of the Audiovisual Communication degree at UOC.}, refereed = {yes}, url = {http://www.openeducationeuropa.eu/en/article/When-Video-Becomes-Social}, attachments = {media25164.pdf}, }
